WHAT IS AROMATHERAPY MASSAGE?

Aromatherapy is a type of massage that includes specific scented essential oils with attention to your needs and health goals.

Aromatherapy massage merges two therapeutic practices to create wonderful results by mixing traditional massage's muscular and calming effects with the holistic benefits of scented essential oils.

Essential oils get extracted from the plant's essence, the cell that gives a plant its fragrant smell.

 

These scented oils may activate areas in the nose called smell receptors, which send messages through the nervous system to some brain regions, such as the limbic system, which plays a role in your emotions. They could also impact your hypothalamus. This part of the brain may recognize the oil and, as a result, it may create feel-good brain chemicals like serotonin. That's why aromatherapists say this therapy may directly affect your mental and physical well-being while promoting sleep.

Essential oils are natural & powerful aromatic compounds found in plants; extracted & distilled for a variety of health benefits. Essential oils give plants their distinctive smells and represent their nature’s defence mechanism, while playing a role in plant pollination too. Essential oils can be used for a wide range of emotional and physical wellness applications, for food preparation and beauty treatments. They may be a very cost effective way to support your wellbeing in a natural way as they are very highly concentrated    (a drop of peppermint essential oil = 28 cups of peppermint tea) so just a few drops will be sufficient!

Essential oils can be used aromatically by putting a drop in your hands, rubbing them together and inhaling or using a diffuser. They can help to clean and purify the air or improve respiratory function.

 

They may also help to elevate our moods as they are quickly absorbed by the smell receptors, which have a direct link to the limbic system that is the part of the brain supporting functions such as smell, emotions, behaviour, and memory. 

For this reason, essential oils may enable us to gain access to stored, forgotten memories and suppressed emotions so that we can acknowledge, integrate and/or release them. Some essential oils can help with tension headache, stress & anxiety.

Essential oils can easily penetrate the skin so they can be used topically when trying to get the oils quickly into the bloodstream or for direct application.

 

Some of the best places on the body to apply essential oils are the bottoms of the feet, spine, and back of the neck.

 

Since they are so highly concentrated, it is always best to dilute essential oils with a carrier oil (such as coconut, almond, jojoba) to decrease the likelihood of developing a skin sensitivity.

Some essential oils can be used internally. Always check that  the bottle has a “Supplement Facts” box on the label before ingesting. If an oil does not have a supplement fact, it is better suited for aromatic and topical use.

For instance, Some of the most popular scented oils are lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, and rosemary.

We use lavender for its calming properties, while we usually choose peppermint if you need help easing muscle soreness. Meanwhile, we would select eucalyptus for its refreshing scent or rosemary for its invigorating properties.
