HOW TO DO DRY BODY BRUSHING & WHY IT'S GREAT FOR YOU

Updated: May 7

Read our Step-By-Step Guide to master dry body brushing and learn about its 5 Biggest Benefits & how to choose the perfect dry brush for your skin type.

WHAT IS DRY BODY BRUSHING?

It is simple as it sounds! It is brushing the skin with a dry brush, following a particular sequence, usually before showering. We dry brush the skin toward the heart, starting at the feet and hands and then toward the chest.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DRY BODY BRUSHING?

1. DRY BODY BRUSHING EXFOLIATES THE SKIN

It helps to remove dead skin cells, resulting in a natural softer, less dry skin!

2. DRY BODY BRUSHING SUPPORTS & CLEANSES THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM

Body Dry Skin brushing may help to improve the lymph flow as it helps to drain this fluid to the lymph nodes where toxins are cleared. When the lymphatic system works efficiently, your skin will appear smoother, immunity is boosted, and swelling/fluid retention can be reduced effectively.

3. DRY BODY BRUSHING CLEARS YOUR FACE

When using a softer brush for your face, you can really clear oil, dirt, and residue from the pores and enjoy radiant skin.

4. DRY BODY BRUSHING MAY HELP TO REDUCE CELLULITE

If you are committed enough to do it regularly, as your skin becomes softer and smoother, cellulite may reduce too.

5. DRY BODY BRUSHING CAN HELP WITH STRETCH MARKS AND IS GENERALLY SAFE IN PREGNANCY

HOW TO CHOOSE THE DRY BODY BRUSH RIGHT FOR YOU

If you are new to dry body brushing or you have very sensitive skin, I would suggest you start with a softer brush. As your skin becomes used to it, try to use a firmer brush.

I prefer natural bristle brushes with a long handle, as I can reach my entire back and easily brush the bottoms of my feet and the backs of my legs.

HOW TO DO DRY BODY BRUSHING

1) Start brushing the bottoms of my feet and up my legs in long, smooth strokes, around 10 times each section.

Remember to always brush toward the heart/centre of the body as this will help the lymphatic flow, that is a speedy removal of toxins!

2) Start brushing the palms of the hands and again brush up the arm toward the chest.

3) To Brush the abdomen and armpits in an effective way, brush in an in a circular clockwise motion. Repeat the same process on my back

4) Use a softer brush to do the face.

The skin should be lightly pinky after brushing, but not red! If that's the case, try to not brush so hard as it should never hurt!
